Student Ministry

The Student Ministry of Parkland Baptist Church is separated into two parts. The Youth Ministry is designed to help 7th – 12th graders as they mature in their relationship with Christ. The College and Career Ministry, Truth Connection, based on John 14:6, is designed to enhance the lives of college and career age young adults who are looking for a place to minister as they grow in their abiliy to lead and serve. Every event, activity, or program is designed to meet one of the five functions of the church: worship, outreach, fellowship, evangelism, and discipleship. Upcoming special events as well as weekly events are listed here, we would love to have you join us for one or all of them.

Special Upcoming Events for College & Career:

Updates from our youth & adults while on Mission Trip in Ohio:

Monday, July 12, 6:00 pm -  We arrived Saturday evening and immediately sent everyone out to the areas where we would be doing VBS and BYBC to pass out flyers.

Sunday morning we divided into six groups and spent Sunday morning worship with the six churches with which we will be working. Sunday evening the three VBSs started. Manchester had 17 children. Tri-County had 25, and Seaman had 35. That was a fantastic turn out. During that same time two of our survey teams started in the Manchester area and found 12 families who were open for a visit from the church.

This morning it rained but right about 8:00 (when we were supposed to leave for the sites) it stopped. Today the youth and adults have passed out information about the sports camp that will start tomorrow; they have had their first day of Back Yard Bible Club in Higginsport which had 8 children; they have painted a sanctuary; torn off a roof and started putting a new on one; rebuilt a deck/loading area on the side of a church; and mulched the front of a church….. and they still have VBS tonight.

They are working very hard. But it is hot, if you talk to your youth on the phone, please remind them to drink water.

Our accommodations are very nice. We are sleeping at one end of the gym and using the other end as a community area. Yesterday afternoon the kids were playing basketball, volleyball, and football in the same half of the gym at the same time.

Pray for us…. more tomorrow love to you all

Tuesday, July 13, 6:00 pm  - last night’s vbs numbers were unbelievable. Tri-County had 18 children; Seaman had 36, and Manchester had 44!!! We had to send over more cookies and koolaid. The survey teams at Tri-County found 3 prospects for the church. Tom Curry, Joe Parrish and Josh Erwin joined us last night. Tom and Joe are here until tomorrow morning and Josh is here the rest of the week. We immediately put them to work.

Today it rained A LOT we put railing on a deck, worked with landscaping, and worked on the fellowship hall at Fincastle; worked some more on the roof at Ripley; put in new doors at Manchester; and had 3 three childred at the sports camp and 12 at the BYBC all IN THE RAIN.

The largest church in this area is West Union Southern Baptist Church, which averages about 100 on Sunday mornings. They had us to their church for dinner tonight. It was nice.

Your youth are working very hard…. Saturday night and Sunday night we went to bed at 11:30, last night it was 11:00. Who knows by the end of the week we may be in bed by 10:00.

I know you want to see photos but no one with a camera has the cables to upload photos. I will keep looking. More tomorrow.

Wednesday, July 14, 6:00 pm – another good day! Last night the VBS numbers were the same at Tri-County and Manchester and Seaman went up to 41. The BYBC had 8 today and the sports camp had 12!  So far this week we have seen about 125 children come to one of our events.

The rain is over and today was hot. The work at Manchester and Tri-County is totally complete. As people are finishing we are sending them to Ripley. It is very hot up on that roof. Tomorrow we will be the cleaning inside from a little water damage and cleaning up roofing mess so the new roof can be finished before we return home. My new saying is “All roads lead to Ripley.”

We are continuing to work at Fincastle and have some yard work to do at Seaman but things are looking up. Your children are fantastic. They go to bed and they get up when they are supposed to. They work hard and care for the people they meet.

More later.

Thursday, July 15, 6:00 pm – well….. the roof at Ripley is about 95% finished. They have little front porch that still have to be completed. The roof of the main building is finished. The inside ceiling has been repaired from the leaking. The work at Fincastle is still going strong. I won’t know until that group gets home tonight how much they have left for tomorrow.

The VBS numbers are still large and the church prospects are coming in.

Tomorrow we have one last church to landscape at Seaman; a end of Sport Camp party at Ripley, some finishing and cleaning at Fincastle and we have to clean up the school where we are staying.

We will be home tomorrow night between 8:00 and 9:00 – I will make sure your kids call so you will know for sure.
